Psychedelic Integration
I have found that psychedelic medicines can offer a powerful assist in the psychotherapy process, and there is an increasing body of scientific research that supports this. Research also shows that clear therapeutic intention, a sanctuary-like environment, focused preparation, and thorough integration counseling all play a significant role in lasting growth and healing outcomes.
Preparation sessions are a place to explore hopes, fears and concerns, clarify intentions, lay groundwork for the experiences you might have in your journey, and provide any logistical information you might need to feel more oriented and comfortable.
Post-integration sessions in the days and weeks after a psychedelic experience offer time to “digest” your experiences and assimilate them into your conscious mind, psychological system, and physical-energetic body.
For most people, the psychedelic journey offers a lot of information, insights, perceptions, and experiences that they know in the moment are meaningful, but they can’t necessarily make sense of. Often the information feels jumbled, undifferentiated, or a-conceptual — there might be images, physical sensations, a felt sense of something that doesn't have words but feels true, or the sense that something is an important message for you. Sometimes we have experiences that we sense have roots in our ancestry or beyond this lifetime. Sometimes patterns or burdens are revealed that would benefit from their own healing process in later therapy. You might not understand any of this in the moment, but if what you experience has value and significance for you, you will know that.
You can think of the journey as a source of raw psychic data that later needs untangling, sorting and organizing so you can make use of it in your life. That's what integration is for.
Its important to know that psychedelic therapy is not for everyone. As with all medicines, there are physical and mental health conditions that contraindicate their use. A careful assessment of your history is essential before I would consider helping you in this work, and for some conditions you will need medical clearance.
Psychedelic medicines are illegal in the State of Rhode Island; I do not provide or promote the use of illegal substances in my practice. If you are interested in working with cannabis or with ketamine (though technically classified as a dissociative anesthetic, it is being used in psychedelic therapy with great result), both of these are legal and I can help you connect with a licensed provider and guide you in your preparation, journey and integration. If you feel called towards other medicines, I can point you towards trusted sources of information and guide you in your preparation, journey, and integration. If you have personal experience with psychedelic medicines and want help integrating your experiences, that is a great time to start working with me.
I am trained by the Ketamine Training Center to guide ketamine assisted psychotherapy. I have a wealth of personal experience with other plant medicines. I'm a professional member of the Open Foundation, Europe's premiere organization dedicated to the advancement of psychedelic research and therapy. I participate regularly in their online seminars and trainings, and stay current on research in the field.
